Week 3 Day 6

Had shredded wheat with fresh strawberries. I put more milk on than I needed, but it was good.

Walked but it was hot with no breeze at all. Now I have a headache. Weight is back down.

Ate tuna salad with 1/2 apple.

Grilled another piece of the chicken sausage to eat with a min wheat bagel, a Babybel, and scrambled egg beaters.

Went to ball game feeling stuffed and wished I hadn't eaten that much. Nothing else goes in the mouth today.

Week 3 Day 5

Well, the steak and zucchini bread I had last night with fried squash and onions had me up a pound. I'll have to be careful the rest of the week, but it was worth it. Probably should have cut the steak in half and not eaten but half the bread even though it's full of zucchini! Back to stewed squash as well, but I like them too.

Biked for two miles.

Grilled index finger-length of chicken susage to go with leftover cauliflower and steamed veggies: carrots, cabbage, zucchini, onion. Delicious! Hubby liked it too. I'm so glad he's not finicky. I'm very full and satisfied. Hubby ate a fresh peach. I might have one later but only if I get hungry.

We had tuna salad and I ate a few strawberries with it. It's 8pm and I'm already wanting something else. At least I do have points left.

Week 3 Day 4

Drank a Slim Fast and went walking/trekking.

We're trying to decide what to do this Memorial Day weekend. Hubby wants a steak and I want to go out. May end up at neice's pool and grill there.

Neice has company for the weekend so we're grilliing a steak here.

For lunch I ate a mini-bagel with a slice of luncheon ham and fresh lettuce with half an apple.

Hungry by 2:30 so I ate a Weight Watchers yogurt. Good. Now it's 4:30 and I'm trying to make it until supper time. Struggling because I didn't eat enough at lunch. I'll learn...

Yes, I admit it. I ate too much but it was delicious. Couldn't eat all my steak, or salad. but I should have stopped when I first felt uncomfortable instead of taking a few more bites. Anyway, I'll cut back now that it was my "big" meal of the week, and get plenty of exercise tomorrow.

Week 3 Day 3

I tried the Weight Watchers Amaretto Cheesecake yogurt for breakfast. OMG!!! I felt like I was cheating and it's only 1 point! Wow! I'll be getting more of those. Walked and then came home and drank some Ruby Red juice.

I have to eat an early lunch but not sure what. I'm saving points in case the ball game gets rained out we can go to a steakhouse for dinner.

Ate a salad and got my hair cut. Came home and took big package of seeded grapes and put them into the juicer. Drank the wonderful juice with nothing added. Not sure if it had points, but it was fantastic and I was tired of watching them go bad because they had seeds.

Made zucchini bread and tossed in the grape skins for added sweetness and color. Don't know about points here either but I left out the walnuts and added the natural grape so that should help.

Had a slice of bread with my WW lasagna. Delish!  We won ball game 8-7. Came home and ate a fresh peach. Yum! Hey, I think I like this program.

Week 3 Day 2

Got up early and drank Ruby Red with a mini bagel smeared with just enough peanut butter to taste. Forgot to take multi-vit and fiber as we dashed out the door to play golf before it got really hot.

Played 18 holes. About 11:15, I felt my energy abandoning me so I ate a Fiber One peanut butter bar (3 points) and a bottle of water. After we finished we went to the Piggly-Wiggly cafe and I decided to get a salad while hubby got in the entree line. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I got a small chicken breast, more than a cup of chicken salad (one of my favorite things),  broccoli salad, and a small tossed salad with very little in it. Okay, the final infraction...sweet tea! I haven't had any in months but it was wonderful and I needed a boost before we went to Lowe's to walk the place several times looking for things hubby needed. He questioned my getting sweet tea and I bit his head off. Wasn't good either. Wonder how many points that was....

Got home and tried to figure up those points as best I know how. I have used today's 25 points. Sigh. Guess I'll go over because I'll need something later.

Now that I've showered and shaved a pound of hair off my legs, I'm going to grandson's baseball game...in the heat. I least I feel refreshed and I smell good. Won't be going with them to eat a late meal.
Probably have a Slim Fast shake or another Fiber One bar with water.

Week 3 begins today

I've lost 8 pounds by my own scales, but we'll see what WW scales say.  I'm sure they want read as well. I took fiber and multi vit and am having Activia with granola on top. No time to walk this morning.

By their scales, I lost 4.4 pounds this week for a total of 7.4 for two weeks. I got a standing ovation and a star. Going to sign up for the walk at the Y in June.

While my Pathfinder was being serviced, I walked over to Big Lots and then the Hardee's where I got chicken tenders, honey mustard, and a bottle of water. I think I have 20 points left today. That's good because hubby wants smoked sausage tonight. I got him pork and bought chicken sausage for me. Looks the same.

I grilled the sausages and we finished the green beans (thank goodness!) and I fried some squash with onions. But rest of the week the squash will be stewed. Hubby asked me to play golf with him tomorrow and I told him I would if we could go early and not wait until the heat got to 90 degrees. Just got my clubs out for the first time in over two years. Glad I have lots of balls in case I need them:-\

Day 14

Well, this is the day before weigh-in. At least I'm not off somewhere having to eat out like last week. Maybe I will weigh less tomorrow. I'm certainly down on my own scales, so at least I'm heading in the right direction. Slept well.

Took fiber supplement. Had cup of All-Bran with cranberries thrown in and just enough milk to cover it.

Rode bike a mile before about 60 students entered the track, dressed to run. Packed up and came home. Drank 1/2 small glass of blueberry juice. Very good. Now to dead-head the roses.

Dead-headed roses and cut enough for a beautiful bouquet on the table. They smell glorious! Helped hubby string the butter beans in a muddy garden. Plodded back to the house with heavy shoes. That ought to be considered exercise.

Day 13

Had grape juice and min-bagel with smear of peanut butter after fiber and glass of water.

Walked a mile in the cool breeze. Joints are really hurting today. Must be a storm brewing. I really wanted to walk two miles.

Not sure if we'll eat leftovers for lunch or save for tonight. Hubby has bad sinus infection and is asleep on the couch.

Ate turkey on thin wheat bread with no mayo but a little honey mustard for lunch and shared apple with hubby.

Ate a carrot because the sandwich didn't quite satisfy.

We had leftover grilled turkey, green beans, and I fried some squash and onions. I know. Shouldn't have fried stuff, but I just couldn't resist this time. I'll go back to stewed ones tomorrow or the next day.  Totally satisfied and having no snack tonight.

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Day 12

Having All-Bran cereal (3 points) with milk (2 points). Not bad. Just took fiber supplement and multi-vit. Thinking about a cup of coffee. Haven't had any since I started this program.

It looks like it's going to pour rain any second. I haven't been for a walk or bike ride. I'll do something here in the house.

Had WW chicken parm for lunch. Hubby is cooking another wild turkey for tonight and the kids are all coming.

Hubby grilled most of turkey and I fried the tenders he cut...a bunch of them. The boys will love them. Boiled new potatoes, cabbage, and green beans. Cut squash and onions into circles and fried them...nearly burned them. I used Olive Oil for seasoning everything rather than bacon grease. I hope to at least taste the fried squash and maybe a tender.

Everyone loved the dinner and I barely got any squash at all. I did grab a few of the onions. I ate a tender and it was very good but the BBQued  turkey was excellent. Shouldn't have use too many points although it's hard to figure with this meal.

Day 11

Last night was the most beautiful Relay for Life I've been to. The weather was perfect and for the first time in four years, my grandson's luminaries weren't ruined by a downpour. We lit all 300 of them, my eyes filled with tears. Two reporters took pictures of him setting amongst his candle-lit bags.

The food vendors sent up many wonderful aromas but I walked around and visited with people and returned to my chair under a shade tree to eat my Fiber One bar with water. Later I had a tiny bag of fat-free cookies, and on the way home hubby and I shared my apple.

This morning I took my fiber with water and went for a walk. Forgot to drink juice and came home really zapped. Showered and ate a mini wheat bagel with a smear of peanut butter.

Got a small package of venison burger from the freezer for hubby to grill with zucchini for lunch.

I had 1 lean burger on tiny thin wheat bread rather than a bun. No mayo, onion, and a tiny bit of catsup. Grilled squash and zuchinni were good.

Fixed a spinach salad with rest of grilled chicken, one carrot, and 1 boiled egg. Good!

Friday, May 21, 2010

Day 10

Drank Ruby Red with my vits and a glass of water with fiber supplement. Walked a mile before it got so hot. Came back and ate a mini wheat bagel with a smear of peanut butter. Those are good.

Not sure what to take to Relay For Life tonight. Thinking a Fiber One bar and maybe some (6) Weight Watchers cookies, and a bottle of water. Could buy the water there though and it would be one less thing to haul. Always have a chair to carry.

I'm wondering about my energy level so I may need to eat more lunch today so I can walk as much as I want to. The carb salad and a tiny bit of stir-fry are still in fridge. Hubby can eat a sandwich or go to the grill down the road. He can eat whatever he wants tonight and I can't have BBQ, burger, hot dogs, fries, funnel cakes, candy apples, etc. Might be able to eat BBQ turkey but not on a bun. We'll see. Better stick to my plan.

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Day 9

Slept well. Had small blueberry yogurt cup, a toasted mini wheat bagel, and a small glass of Ruby Red.

Headed out to walk but track is full of high school students. Can't go with Duke when it's that crowded because some of them are scared of him.

I have pedicure and hair cut in Goldsboro beginning at 11:00 am. I won't finish until 1:00 pm, so instead of eating out between appointments, I'm going to take a Fiber One bar and a small bottle of water up there and that'll pretty much be lunch. Maybe hubby will finish crab salad or stir-fry but I doubt it.

Hubby played golf. I got along fine with my bar/water lunch but had to eat a carrot about 3:30.

Salmon patties, fresh potatoes, squash and onions for supper. Wonderful! I'm sure the patties ate up all the remaining points for the day, but I'm full and satisfied.

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Day 8

I am not looking forward to going to weigh. We went to the ball game and I really thought we were going to stop at a place we know in Elizabethtown where I could choose wisely from a buffet. Nobody was hungry at 4:30, so we went on. There was nowhere to get anything so I got a bottle of water at the game. At 8:30, hubby pulled into a seafood restaurant, recommended at the game. It was the only place open, In fact, it was the only place period for many miles. I looked over the tiny salad bar but it didn't excite me. So...
since I had 16 points saved up for just this kind of situation, I ordered the senior fried shrimp, small slaw, and potato with water. I had no idea how many points that was, and should have given hubby some of my shrimp, but I was hungry. I ate it and it was good.

I felt heavy this morning, so I'm sure that was the wrong thing to do. I didn't take any good snack items because I had points and didn't want to use them up. I need to figure out how to go to all these games without having to compromise my diet. I started the day with a full glass of water and my fiber supplement. I have just finished off a Slim Fast (3 points) and relatively satisfying. It does give me some milk. Anyway, I dread weighing...

I had lost 3 pounds, not the goal 5 pounds. I am disappointed and frustrated but at least I have 3 off. Miss WW said sometimes people gain 3 in one week. I ate a salad for lunch with grapes, 1 boiled egg (first egg I've had), carrot, and low-fat yogurt dressing on the side that I only stick my fork into. Finished the lettuce from our garden. I bought baby spinach, so I'll begin to use that while the crop of lettuce revitalizes. I have 13 points left for the day. Drinking water. I'll go walk in about thirty minutes. Maybe that will make me feel happier and less dissatisfied with myself.

Walked a mile but it was awfully humid. I wore too many clothes. Got the job done though.

Sitr-fry tonight. Strips of inexpensive meat soaked in Dale's, then into pan with a little olive oil, carrots, onions, and partially cooked cabbage, garlic, and Oriental seasoning. I cooked a head of cauliflower and creamed it with salt, pepper, and Butter Buds. Hubby ate it and didn't complain. He went to a ballgame, so he'll probably eat something else there, but that's fine. He doesn't need to lose any more weight. I have points left over but I hope I can leave them alone. I bought some Trident gum to help stave off hunger between meals. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day. Saw the Relay for Life booths in the paper today. Not a thing I can eat. I'm making a note to take something from here in my purse.

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Day 7

This morning I had Activia yogurt and a glass of Ruby Red.  That's it, along with multi-vit and fiber supplement. I'll probably finish the crab salad for lunch, maybe with a mini wheat bagel I bought yesterday, 2 points compared to 6 points for the regular bagels. Now that's a significant difference.

The only exercise I got yesterday was in the house and throwing the frisbee a few times for Duke since it poured much needed rain most of the day. It's raining this morning, but I hope it will clear enough to get a good walk in before we leave for the ball game.

Just walked a mile. It drizzled some, but not enough to stop me. I have trekking poles out and ready to use tomorrow morning if the weather cooperates.

Monday, May 17, 2010

Day 6

I ate a bagel with Ruby Red juice this morning. Cost me more points than I'd like but I'm trying to finish up the expensive food I bought before I started Weight Watchers. I have another bag of those big bagels in the freezer, but I bought the small wheat bagels when I went to the store this morning. I can use them with fewer points. They also make good croutons if toasted. The Ruby Red has fewer points than grape and orange juice.

I made imitation crab salad for lunch. Tossed in a cup of green peas even though they are 2 points. Added just enough mayo to stick it together, salt, pepper, a little onion. May pop it with chipotle pepper since it's suppose to rev the metabolism. Might add a little zing too. I decided not to add the chipotle but savor the sweet crabmeat. It was delicious. I ate carrots and celery with it for a little crunch. Hubby ate crackers and peanut butter.

Bought some baby spinach and was going to get another avocado, but this store didn't have any. Found a recipe that has avocado and cashews although the cashews are 3 points per serving. Figure I can toss on a few and cut the points down, but not today. Also bought a cheap cut of beef I can use in a stir-fry with under-cooked cabbage from yesterday. Might be lunch tomorrow.

I'm already thinking about tomorrow night and eating out. Not sure where or what I'll choose. I really have to be mindful of everything I put in my mouth and keep track.

Had rest of pasta and broccoli along with fresh squash and onions. Yummy! Had 3 points left over for WW ice cream bar.

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Day 5

I've lost 3 pounds by my scales. Having water with fiber and vits and then a small glass of juice, 4 oz. yogurt, and 1/2 bagel for breakfast. Hubby is cooking lean ham (ALL fat removed), fresh potatoes, and cabbage from the garden for lunch. YUM!

Just rode my bike 2 1/4 miles. Getting warm out there. I think I'll have a Hard Rock glass of ice cold water.

Even though I'm tracking everything I put in my mouth, I think this blog is an added bonus to aid with accountability.

Had a nice lunch with above items plus some fresh spring onions that tasted like candy. Hubby cooked :-]
He didn't get the cabbage quite done and I didn't eat much of it. I told him I'd save it and perhaps stir-fry it with some grilled chicken, carrots, etc. He finished off the cherry cobbler he made day before yesterday. It didn't bother me. In fact, I told him I'd fix him some biscuits to go with the red eye gravy, but he declined. He really is a sweetheart and I know he'll support my weight loss program.

Hubby will be with his mother tonight, and since we had a nice hot lunch, I'll have a salad tonight with some grilled chicken, cauliflower, carrots, celery, and if I have the points, a smidgen of sharp cheddar.

Wrote ten more pages of novel. Nice to be back to work on that.

I just ate a wonderful salad with fresh lettuce from the garden along with carrots, celery, the last of the beets, a little onion, and grilled chicken. I arranged it on a large pasta plate and it looked like it belonged in a restaurant. Delish! Dressing on the side as always so I can stick my fork in it and then into the salad. Barely use any dressing this way, only get that little taste on the veggies. Filling and satisfying to know that I have plenty of points remaining if I want to use them later.

Saturday, May 15, 2010

Day 4

Slept well but I'm not in a very good mood. Don't know why. Maybe it's because I'd like to have eggs and bacon for breakfast. I bought some turkey bacon, but the book says Canadian. I need to research before I jump into that. So, yes, another Slim Fast (3 points). I took a fiber supplement and my multi-vitamin along with the Osteo Biflex I take every day.

It's already 71 degrees so I need to get outside now before it gets any hotter.

Walked but only half a mile. At least I was moving for 30 minutes, just not at the pace I'd like. For some reason, I just don't have the energy this morning. Lowered AC and now I'm going to find my magnifying glass and try to read the MP3 manual so I can load music for my exercise. I really need that.

I had a salad for lunch but didn't put any meat in. Not satisfying. Bought skinless chicken but have to grill it first. Need to go ahead and prepare the bag so I can reach for it when I need it. I just finished preparing celery, carrots, and cauliflower for easy and quick fixes.  Steeped Chai green tea to sip on when not drinking water. I feel good about having done this. Now, to get that MP3 player working.

I still can't get a song to download. I need help! I am really missing my music.

Having a Hard Rock glass of water to keep from eating something. The salad didn't work for me today. I'm trying to be good. Hubby just ate cherry cobbler and ice cream. I WILL drink water!

Son brought us some homemade chicken salad so I had that on lettuce with a Red Delicious apple, carrot sticks, celery sticks, and raw cauliflower. Very filling! Went to ball game. Had a popsicle (1 pt) when I got home even though I wasn't really hungry. I could have left that off and been down an extra point.

Discipline!

Day 3

Good morning! I slept so well last night and hopped up this morning and weighed 1.2 pounds less than I did on Wednesday when I joined Weight Watchers. Miss WW said not to weigh, but when she explained that their scales are "official", I figured I can at least tell that I've lost even if the total is not the same as theirs. I bought a fiber supplement yesterday and took it a few minutes ago. I seem to do fine with the Slim Fast shake for breakfast, so I'm sipping on that right now. It's 3 points but that's all I'm having. I'll have some fresh strawberries and grapes with my lunch. I'm anxious to try that super thin bread. Hubby is eyeing it too, but I told him he'd have to finish the loaf of regular bread and then if he wants to switch, we'll only buy the thin.

BTW, I hid the snacks I bought because I knew he'd eat them up and leave all the high calorie stuff that's in the house to go bad. He's done this to me too many times and sabotaged my plan. He doesn't seem to realize what he's doing and I don't mean to seem selfish, but I'm in SURVIVOR MODE! Again, once he eats up all the "junk", if he likes my new stuff (once I share), I'll simply buy only those items. They even had some kind of cheesey things with just a few points. The key to these points is the servings. I have to be mindful of that.

10:30 AM  Just back from riding my bike 2 miles at a nearby high school track. That's where I walk, too, as long as I don't interfere with students using it, and that doesn't happen much. It's 80 degrees and I think I could have done another mile easily if I hadn't taken Duke. He is a huge yellow lab, and he's going on a diet as well. He simply can't hold out in the heat. He likes to stay with me, but this morning he ended up in the truck a mile in. I always take him a small container of water.

Hubby and I plan to finish off the tuna salad at lunch so I think I'll try that thin bread along with a cup of fresh strawberries. We have a cherry tree, loaded with cherries. Hubby pitted and froze a bag last night. I need to do that or perhaps make some kind of syrup (made with Truvia) but I don't think I can have pancakes. Maybe fat-free ice cream?

My tiny thin sandwich was very good and I feel satisfied at 1:30 pm. I ate about 10 fresh strawberries with it. I also drank 16 oz. of water from my Hard Rock Cafe glass. I like to use that because I don't have to fill it up so often and I can keep track during the day. I also put my sandwich and fruit on a much smaller plate so it looked full. Whatever works, huh?

Since we finished the tuna salad, I have to come up with something else. I may cook some wheat pasta and some kind of sauce. Since we cook with venison, maybe that's better than hamburger?

Hubby made a cherry cobbler but I'm not touching it.

Cooked some broccoi with Olive Oil to go with past dish. While wheat pasta is not as good as flour pasta, it was satisfactory. Hubby added peanut butter and cracker and cobbler to his meal. I have enough points left over to have a snack later if I want it.

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Day 2

Got up about 6:15 because I couldn't sleep. Already 66 degrees so I got Duke loaded and went to walk. We got a mile in and the weather was nice. Nobody else out that early. I drank about 4 oz. of orange juice. Need to read up on that. Not sure if I'm supposed to have that on this particular diet. It was worth 2 points but it gives me quick energy. I came back and drank a Strawberry Slim Fast since I had purchased them and that was worth 3 points. So, at 7:50, I have used 5 of my 25 points. Going to shower and go grocery shopping with my points calculator.

I'm back from the store and tired. It took a long time to purchase the right products and check the points with my calculator before marking the points with my Sharpie. I feel good about what I bought even though my bill was huge considering the only meat I bought was skinless chicken (outrageously priced, by the way). I bought a couple of snack items too since they were 1 or 2 points. I just have to remember to check the serving size and not go over that unless I have plenty of points to spare.

I'm going to make myself a nice salad for lunch with some grilled chicken on top even though hubby is home. Today is Thursday and we usually get chicken and pastry from the grill. I'm not even going there because it's mostly pastry which is white flour seasoned with rich chicken stock. I think I'll make a bowl of tuna salad for tonight. I found Pepperidge Farms very thin bread to use for sandwiches.

I had a fudge popsicle (2points) this afternoon. It was good but I felt like I was cheating. Truth is I wasn't even hungry. Just knew it was here. I really have to work on that aspect.

Made tuna and we're having that before we head out to a baseball game. If a can of tuna is 7 servings(?!) then even if it's only 1 point, I have to watch it. I can't imagine getting 7 servings from a can of tuna. I can eat half the can by myself! Then, of course, I added 2 eggs, mayo, relish, and onion. Not sure what that amounts to. No snack for me tonight.

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Day 1

Okay, this is Day 1 and I didn't get off to a good start. My hubby, who normally eats a bowl of cereal, got up and made bacon, eggs, grits, and toast for us for breakfast. I guess I'll have to sit him down and try to get him to understand that I can no longer eat bacon (unless it's turkey, which he doesn't like), grits, or even toast.

I showered and headed for town to join Weight Watchers. I got tied up in horrible traffic because of road construction and got lost, then finally arrived late, after the weigh-in and meeting had started. The ladies were kind, and took me right in. I stayed for the rest of the meeting and then one lady went over the points system and gave me my Book One. BTW-I had to weigh and their scales weighed me 3.8 pounds heavier than my own!

At least I have taken that step and my commitment is to attend every Wednesday morning if at all possible, finding another route to get there.

I came home to last night's leftovers...BBQ ribs, taters, and butterbeans. NO! I did not eat the taters or beans, but I did eat one rib with a bagel. I can't stand to throw out food that is so expensive now. After eating, chewing each bite 20-30 chews, I got out my new points calculator and added up the rib and bagel. Damn! I've already used up 9 points! That bagel was actually terrible, but the WW lady told me there's a very thin bagel that I can have, so I'll look for that.

Now I have to track EVERYTHING that enters my mouth. Miss WW says people lose much more weight if they are fully conscious of what goes in. Makes sense. Now I have to study my food book and make a grocery list in order to only purchase items that are good for me. Hubby likes practically everything and he wants me to lose weight, so he will just have to get his snacks and such when he's away from me.

I think going to the meetings each Wed. morning and tracking will make me accountable. I certainly hope so. I have no idea what my points were at breakfast, so I started with lunch. Probably should have waited until tomorrow to start Day 1,  but I figure I need to jump in now before I lose my resolve. I'm thinking that I have already eaten too much for the day, so I'll really have to be careful tonight. Hubby won't be home, so maybe I can pull this off...probably a salad.

Later on Day 1:  I took my lab, Duke, and went for a walk, but it was 84 degrees and neither of us held out for a mile. I did 3/4 and I'm disappointed. I usually walk early in the mornings when it's cooler. Today was just screwy.

I marked points on everything in the cabinets with a Sharpie. I was quite surprised at a couple of things. Knew walnuts were fatty, but 4 points? Don't think I'll be eating those anymore. Almonds are 3 and I can have more of them. Thought the canned pears and yams would be more than 3 points. Pears were only 2. Asparagus and beets I can start throwing in my salads (with a few almonds). Yum!

I had recently bought two cases of Slim Fast with the intention of having them twice a day in lieu of meals. So far, that hasn't worked with our hectic baseball games, so I will use them up (not as many points as I expected) and then switch to the WW shakes.

I haven't marked the fridge items yet, but I'm tired. Maybe later. Then I need to go grocery shopping and get the right things. This will take a while since I need to take my points calculator and mark as I go.

I know there are items in the freezer that are horrible...like pizza bites and honey-glazed BBQ wings. I guess I can feed them to hubby and he'll be happy but I will have to leave the room.
Another good thing is that we have venison, quail, pheasant, and fish in the freezer. Now to stay home long enough to cook them!

Hubby is now home and I told him that I'd joined WW. He is pleased and says he will help me once he understand the point system. Another good reason to have items marked.

Today is the day I get serious!

I started this blog for myself, but I hope others of you who have issues with food addiction will join the conversation. You see, I've been on so many diets in my life and lost the weight only to regain it and add more on top of that. After reading the I Can Do This Diet book, and having watched the movie "Julie and Julia" recently (stick with me here. There's a point), I decided that I need to hold myself accountable in more than one way. I plan to join Weight Watchers again, get back to my hypnosis tapes, and keep a journal. But it occurred to me...well, actually Dr. Colbert suggested it...that blogging about my struggle might help.

I measured my waist this afternoon. I nearly burst into tears. How did I let myself get to this point? Well, Dr. Colbert doesn't blame it all on me. I suppose that's one reason I'm paying attention, and let me go ahead and say that I'm certainly not advertising his book or any other weight loss programs. He just put a few important things in perspective for me.

I blog about my books and interview authors all the time, but it never occurred to me to blog about my struggle with food. So, here I am, throwing it out there into cyberspace....the way Julie did to make changes in her life.

I AM A FOODAHOLIC!
I'm a compulsive grazer. I don't have to be the least bit hungry. All I need is to see it or know that it's within reach. Once I eat it, I feel guilty and depressed.

I named this blog "Grazers Anonymous" but I'm telling my name. I want you to know what I'm putting in my mouth, if I'm getting some exercise, and if I can succeed.

I must! I want to feel good about myself again. I want to be proud of what I see in my mirror. I want my husband to stop worrying about me.

I can do this, but I know it would help to have you in my corner. This, as they say, is the first day of the rest of my life. It's time to step away from the fork and get serious about my health. I just realized today would have been my mother's 95th birthday. A good marker, Mama's birth date.
